A highly flavorful mixture that adds the scent of the sea (due to the fleur de sel) combined with the aromas of herbs and spices.
The natural sea salt from Mesologgi is unprocessed apart from washing. It contains all essential trace elements for the body, such as potassium, calcium, and magnesium.
The term "Fleur De Sel" refers to the local name for what is known as fleur de sel. It is produced only in the Mesologgi salt pans due to the ideal conditions. The sea is shallow and warm, allowing the salt to form naturally, while minimal wave action aids crystallization. Moderate winds dry the sea and carry away the foam, and the bottom is flat without slopes.
Fleur de sel forms on the surface of the salt pans as the sea dries, creating a thin crust of the first salt. Gradually, with the help of the wind, this crust is carried and deposited like foam along the edges of the pans.
With controlled production in natural salt pans beside the sea, quality is maintained at the highest levels. It has not undergone iodization (i.e., the addition of synthetic iodine) and contains the iodine naturally present in sea salt, which is what the human body recognizes and absorbs. Natural, unrefined sea salt contains over 80 minerals and elements essential for life, whereas refined salt has none of these beneficial mineral elements. Natural salt from Mesologgi is an important nutritional element.
It is harvested by hand, unprocessed, without the chemical additives found in common salt, which is why the fleur de sel retains its natural moisture and does not flow.
When used externally, it helps with frequent leg cramps and contributes to the prevention of varicose veins and phlebitis.
