1 tablespoon of lavender is steeped in 1 glass of boiling water in a covered container for 10-15 minutes, then strained before use.
Historical Information:
The name comes from the Latin "lavare" (to wash) and characterizes the use of this fragrant plant as an additive in baths. In the 11th century, monks brought lavender north of the Alps. Hildegard von Bingen advises against internal use but recommends it for combating lice.
Scientifically Documented Applications:
The Commission E supports the use of lavender flowers in cases of anxiety and sleep disturbances, as well as for nervous gastrointestinal discomfort.
In animal studies, lavender reduced motor activity, decreased the sleep phase, and increased overall sleep duration.
