The Peppermint tincture is made from soaking the leaves and flowers of peppermint in an alcoholic solution (grappa) for a period of 4-6 weeks. During this time, the active ingredients of the plant dissolve into the alcoholic solution, resulting in the tincture.
Peppermint Tincture (Mentha Piperita) is derived from processing the leaves and flowers of this well-known plant. Mint has a long history as a medicinal herb. Its name originates from Greek mythology, specifically from the nymph Minthe, whom Hades transformed into the aromatic plant "Minthe." The ancient Greeks used it in cooking, winemaking, and pharmacy. In modern herbal therapy, peppermint is primarily used to address digestive disorders, as a mild analgesic, and to invigorate and energize the body. The oil of peppermint contains active substances such as menthol (7-48%), menthone (20-46%), menthyl acetate (3-10%), and menthofuran (1-17%).
According to the E Commission and ESCOP, peppermint is believed to positively affect various types of digestive disorders, such as gastritis, enteritis, and digestive tract inflammation. It is suitable for cases of dyspepsia, irritable bowel syndrome, bloating, flatulence, colic, and stomach cramps or spasms (antispasmodic action). Peppermint’s positive effects on the gastrointestinal system make it a significant component in combating nausea and the urge to vomit.
As a body booster, peppermint is thought to improve mental clarity and generally increase the body’s "energy" levels. It is believed to help relieve headaches, "clear" thoughts, and enhance concentration. For this reason, it is often recommended by herbalists as a suitable herb for students and those engaged in intensive mental work. In terms of physical "invigoration," peppermint is considered to have aphrodisiac properties.
In addition to these properties, peppermint has mild analgesic effects and a wonderful aroma.
Herbal tinctures retain all the active ingredients of the plant, are particularly easy to take, and are entirely natural. They undoubtedly surpass dietary supplements in pill form, as they contain no chemicals or preservatives and are absorbed much more effectively by the body.
Herbal tinctures are very potent, so they should be consumed according to the provided instructions. The usual dosage is 0.5-1ml (approximately 10-20 drops per day). They should not be consumed during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
