Horsetail tincture is made by soaking the leaves of horsetail (Equisetum arvense) in an alcoholic solution (grappa) for a period of 4-6 weeks. During this time, the active ingredients of the herb dissolve into the alcoholic solution, resulting in the tincture.
The horsetail tincture contains the same active components as the dried horsetail herb. In modern herbal medicine, horsetail is considered hemostatic, antiseptic, a tissue tonic, and diuretic. Due to its high content of silica and trace minerals (potassium, manganese, sulfur, and magnesium), it is believed to positively impact cases of inflammatory or enlarged prostate, cystitis, and urinary stones. Its hemostatic (astringent) action is thought to be beneficial for stomach ulcers. Many researchers consider horsetail beneficial for atherosclerosis due to its high silica content. Generally, horsetail is described in many texts as a "repository of minerals" and is considered a particularly important herb for revitalizing weakened organisms. It is reported to be effective for brittle nails, dull hair, and skin.
Herbal tinctures retain all the active ingredients of the plant, are particularly easy to take, and are entirely natural. They undoubtedly surpass dietary supplements in pill form, as they contain no chemicals or preservatives and are absorbed much more effectively by the body.
Horsetail tinctures are very potent and should be consumed according to the provided instructions. The usual dosage is 0.5-1ml (approximately 10-20 drops per day). It should not be consumed during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
