The Yarrow tincture is derived from soaking the flowers of yarrow in an alcoholic solution (grappa) for a period of 4-6 weeks. During this time, the active ingredients of the herb dissolve into the alcoholic solution, resulting in the tincture.
The Yarrow tincture (Achillea millefolium) contains the same active components as dried yarrow herb. In modern herbal medicine, yarrow is used in three different cases. The first case concerns the treatment of flu, colds, and fever. Yarrow is a powerful diaphoretic, which means that a warm drink can induce therapeutic sweating that detoxifies the body.
The plant pigments and alkaloids (achillin) found in yarrow have the ability to lower blood pressure, which is why the herb is recommended for hypertension cases. The coumarins and salicylic acid (a component of aspirin) found in yarrow prevent the formation of blood clots and promote overall good circulation by dilating peripheral arteries.
Finally, yarrow is an effective healer. Its name and reputation stem from this property—according to mythology, the herb was given to Achilles by the centaur Chiron. Achilles used it to tend to the wounds of his warriors during the Trojan War. Internally, yarrow helps combat bleeding from hemorrhoids, menorrhagia, and generally all internal bleeding. The antiseptic properties of the herb (due to its content of azulene and apigenin) are also significant in cases of bleeding.
Tinctures retain all the active ingredients of the herb, are particularly easy to take, and are completely natural. They undoubtedly have advantages over dietary supplements in pill form, as they do not contain chemicals or preservatives and are absorbed much more effectively by the body.
Herbal tinctures are very potent, and for this reason, they should be consumed according to the provided instructions. The usual dosage is 0.5-1ml (approximately 10-20 drops per day). They should not be consumed during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
The Yarrow tincture is prepared in Greece under the strictest European standards, using exclusively pure and tested raw materials.
