Oregano is the common name for the plant Oreganum Onites. The essential oil of Oregano is obtained through steam distillation of the leaves of this specific plant, which is different from common oregano. It has a strong characteristic aroma and is often referred to as oregano oil. The essential oil contains the compounds carvacrol and thymol, which give it antimicrobial properties.
Oregano essential oil is primarily used in aromatherapy to combat respiratory issues such as asthma, bronchitis, and cough, as well as for managing diabetes (2-3 drops of the essential oil in a drink made from wormwood, valerian, marshmallow, hibiscus, stevia, ginger, etc., or even in water). It is also known for its strong antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiparasitic actions. When combined with a carrier oil (such as sea buckthorn, wild rose, jojoba, argan, etc.), it can help with psoriasis issues.
Oregano essential oil combines well with: Thyme, Eucalyptus, Lavender, Pine, and Tea Tree.
Greek oregano is considered one of the best in the world (perhaps the best). It is clearly more expensive than competing products from Italy, Morocco, and Tunisia—but it is 100% Greek.
