Lemongrass, scientific name Cymbopogon flexuosus, is a tropical perennial tall grass from the Poaceae family, native to Southeast Asia and India. When grown in pots, it can reach a height of about 50-60 cm, with narrow leaves resembling grass. It thrives in bright, sunny, and warm locations and does not flower.

The essential oil of lemongrass is obtained through the distillation of the plant's leaves and has a fresh, cool, citrusy aroma with a slightly peppery undertone. Its main chemical constituents include geranial (45%) and myrcene, known for their strong anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antiseptic, antimicrobial, and soothing properties.
