Star Anise Essential Oil is derived from the brown-red fruits of the Star Anise plant (Illicium verum), which consist of 8-9 smaller sections with shiny brown seeds, through steam distillation.

Star Anise Essential Oil is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with high refractivity. Its aroma can be described as sweet, warm, and spicy. This essential oil dissolves easily in alcohol (ethanol), vegetable oils, and other essential oils but does not dissolve well in water. It is stable at temperatures below 14°C.

In alternative medicine, Star Anise Essential Oil has a long-standing tradition. It acts as a spasmolytic for digestive disorders and helps dissolve thick secretions in the bronchi, making it useful in cough syrups and drops. It is also often added to herbal teas for its pleasant flavor and is found in toothpastes or mouth rinses.

In aromatherapy, Star Anise Essential Oil helps alleviate accumulated fears, soothing mental issues and creating a receptive and safe atmosphere.

In cosmetics, this essential oil is mainly used in aromatic soaps or other surfactant products, although it is rarely found in perfumes. Star Anise is a popular spice in sweet dishes and baked goods, and well-known products include liqueurs, ouzo, and sambuca.
