Initially, the cosmetics industry used spermaceti (whale fat), a wax obtained from whales, for its most luxurious products. When the need arose to replace it, the solution was found in plants. Jojoba oil, with the chemical structure C19H41COO-C20H41, shares similar properties to spermaceti and can be used for the same applications. Today, this history seems unimaginable, but it took a long time for jojoba oil to become as established as it is today. It is cultivated in South America, North America, Israel, and North Africa. Our suppliers grow jojoba seeds in Peru and Tunisia. Since it is a desert plant, it requires very specific climatic conditions found only in certain geographical locations. Despite initial agricultural challenges, jojoba oil has established itself and is becoming one of the most important oils for high-quality cosmetics.
