Matcha tea is a unique powdered tea with a deep green color. It originates from Japan, where it is primarily used in the traditional Japanese tea ceremony. It comes from the green tea leaves from the young tops of the plant. Three weeks before harvesting, the leaves are shaded, increasing chlorophyll levels that are rich in nutrients. Once harvested, the leaves are steamed to stop fermentation that would diminish these properties. After drying, they are stone-ground into a vibrant green powder.

Matcha Ninja is rich in catechins, carotenoids, and vitamins A, B, and C, containing 137 times more antioxidants than regular green tea, because we consume the whole leaf rather than just the infusion. A cup of matcha contains only 30mg of caffeine, while a cup of coffee contains 120-150mg. Beneficial for both the body and our mental state, it also contains the amino acid L-theanine. It has been observed that L-theanine increases alpha wave activity in the brain, which is associated with alertness. Alpha wave levels drop when we are tired, and matcha combats fatigue.
