The Tribulus tincture is derived from soaking the seeds of the tribulus plant in an alcoholic solution (grappa) for a period of 4-6 weeks. During this time, the active ingredients dissolve into the alcoholic solution, resulting in the tincture.
Tribulus or Puncturevine (Tribulus Terrestris) belongs to the Zygophyllaceae family and thrives in temperate and tropical regions of Southern Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia. It is known by various common names, including devil's thorn, devil's weed, and tackweed. The plant's extract is believed to increase the body’s natural testosterone levels, thereby improving male sexual performance and aiding muscle mass gain. Various compounds found in the fruits, stems, and roots possess medicinal properties.
Tribulus has been an alternative herbal remedy in traditional Asian medicine for hundreds of years. It is used to address sexual dysfunctions such as impotence and low libido, as it can boost hormone levels like testosterone and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). It also helps improve sperm motility and enhance sexual function. Sperm motility and the sperm’s ability to penetrate the egg play a crucial role in fertilization. A recent study from L. Setiawan Airlangga University in Indonesia investigated the effects of Tribulus Terrestris in men with infertility issues. A dosage of 500mg three times daily for 30 days was found effective in restoring sperm motility.
Tribulus increases testosterone levels, which is known to contribute to muscle mass gain. Higher testosterone levels reduce the time muscles need to recover strength and enhance protein synthesis. Additionally, it promotes a positive nitrogen balance. The combination of these functions contributes to muscle mass increase.
Tribulus is also used in Ayurvedic medicine as a tonic and for treating skin conditions and urinary tract issues as an alternative herbal remedy.
Tinctures retain all the active ingredients of the herb, are particularly easy to take, and are completely natural. They undoubtedly have advantages over dietary supplements in pill form, as they do not contain chemicals or preservatives and are absorbed much more effectively by the body.
Herbal tinctures are very potent, and for this reason, they should be consumed according to the provided instructions. The usual dosage is 0.5-1ml (approximately 10-20 drops per day). They should not be consumed during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
