The hawthorn tincture is made by soaking the leaves, flowers, and fruits of the hawthorn in an alcoholic solution (grappa) for a period of 4-6 weeks. During this time, the active ingredients of the herbs dissolve into the alcoholic solution, resulting in the tincture.
Hawthorn Tincture (Crataegus Oxyacantha) is derived from the processing of the plant that thrives in Europe, Asia, and North America.
In modern herbal medicine, the dried leaves and flowers of hawthorn (always in combination) are primarily used to address heart and circulatory issues. Although Dioscorides was the first to observe the usefulness of hawthorn in treating heart diseases, numerous clinical studies conducted in recent years have confirmed the herb's properties. The consumption of hawthorn expands both the coronary and peripheral arteries, significantly improving blood circulation to the heart. At the same time, the procyanidins (mainly catechin and epicatechin) contained in the hawthorn leaves slow the heart rate. Clinical research studies have shown that patients in the second stage of heart failure (NYHA stage II) who were administered extracts of hawthorn leaves and flowers experienced significant reductions in palpitations, fatigue, and shortness of breath. Hawthorn is generally considered valuable in reducing high blood pressure, treating angina and cardiac arrhythmia, alleviating arterial spasms (Raynaud's disease), and addressing valve disorders of the heart.
Herbal tinctures retain all the active ingredients of the plant, are particularly easy to take, and are entirely natural. They undoubtedly surpass dietary supplements in pill form, as they contain no chemicals or preservatives and are absorbed much more effectively by the body.
Herbal tinctures are very potent and should be consumed according to the provided instructions. The usual dosage is 0.5-1ml (approximately 10-20 drops per day). It should not be consumed during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
