The Epilobium tincture is made by soaking the flowers of Epilobium in an alcoholic solution (grappa) for a period of 4-6 weeks. During this time, the active ingredients from the herbs dissolve into the alcoholic solution, resulting in the tincture.

Epilobium (Epilobium ciliatum) tincture contains the same active ingredients as the dried herb. In modern herbal medicine, Epilobium is considered to have antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties. Herbalists primarily use it to address issues related to prostate hyperplasia, cystitis, and nephritis.

The positive effects of Epilobium on the treatment of early prostate hyperplasia were reported in an article in the scientific journal "Pharmaceutical Herbs" in 1991, which stated that its anti-inflammatory action is 10 times greater than that of the synthetic substance indomethacin. Laboratory studies conducted at the Prostate Research Center in Vancouver found that very small concentrations of the herb negatively affect the activity of the enzymes 5-alpha reductase and aromatase, which are involved in early prostate hyperplasia. Due to its anti-inflammatory effects, Epilobium is thought to help with urinary tract infections, bronchial infections, mucus colitis, and irritable bowel syndrome. It is also believed to benefit diarrhea and incontinence in both men and women.
