Herbal tinctures are made by soaking a herb in an alcoholic solution (grappa) for a period of 4-6 weeks. During this time, the active ingredients of the herb dissolve into the alcoholic solution, resulting in the tincture. Tinctures are significantly more potent than infusions and decoctions.
St. John's Wort tincture (Hypericum perforatum) contains the same active components as the dried St. John's Wort herb. The character of this herb is bittersweet, cooling, and drying. Its constituents include glycosides, flavonoids, and rutin (volatile oils, tannins, and resin). St. John's Wort has been known since antiquity for its ability to heal wounds and burns, relieve pain (analgesic), soften inflammation (anti-inflammatory), and effectively act in cases of nervous system issues as a depressant and tonic for nerve restoration, such as trigeminal neuralgia, necrosis, and injuries. It also alleviates rheumatic pain and sciatica and is considered astringent. Beyond its external action, St. John's Wort also acts internally on the nervous system and can effectively assist with mild depression, speech disorders, sleep disturbances, and hysteria. The active therapeutic substances are found throughout the plant, including leaves, stems, and flowers, which are collected during the flowering season in summer.
Herbal tinctures retain all the active ingredients of the plant, are particularly easy to take, and are entirely natural. They undoubtedly surpass dietary supplements in pill form, as they contain no chemicals or preservatives and are absorbed much more effectively by the body.
The St. John's Wort tincture is very potent and should be consumed according to the provided instructions. The usual dosage is 0.25-0.50ml (approximately 5-10 drops per day). It should not be consumed during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
The St. John's Wort tincture is prepared in Greece under the strictest European standards, using exclusively pure and tested raw materials.
