The Althaea Tincture is made by soaking the root of Althaea in an alcoholic solution (grappa) for a period of 4-6 weeks. During this time, the active ingredients of the herb dissolve into the alcoholic solution, resulting in the tincture.
The Althaea Tincture (Althaea Officinalis) is derived from the processing of the plant that thrives in Europe and Western Asia. It is particularly beneficial for issues such as laryngitis, pharyngitis, cough, gingivitis, intestinal inflammation, peptic ulcers, colitis, stomatitis, teething, hemorrhoids, constipation, gastritis, urinary tract stones, bronchitis, and colds.
In modern herbal medicine, it is used to address gastrointestinal issues. Its high content of mucilage (up to 35% in the roots and up to 10% in the leaves) allows it to soothe and heal inflammation in the stomach and small intestine. Althaea is considered particularly effective for ulcers and in cases of gastritis and colitis.
At the same time, Althaea is thought to positively affect the urinary system, as its anti-inflammatory action soothes and heals the urinary tract as it follows the digestive pathway.
Herbal tinctures are very potent, and for this reason, they should be consumed according to the provided instructions. The usual dosage is 0.5-1ml (approximately 10-20 drops) per day. They should not be consumed during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
The Althaea Tincture is prepared in Greece under the strictest European standards, using exclusively pure and tested raw materials.
