The herb species Maha Pengiri (citronella grass, Cymbopogon winteranius) comes from the genus Lemongrass which belongs to the sweet grass family. Maha Pengiri originally originated in Java (Indonesia), but is now widely cultivated in Southeast Asia and mainly in India. This long-lived herb grows in clusters and can grow up to two meters in height. The lower part of the leaves is reddish. The leaves are smooth and shiny and reach one meter long and 1.5 cm wide. The leaves began to bend from about 2/3 of their length. The stalk is smooth, without hairs and has a yellow or purple-red color.Citronella essential oil is used in aromatherapy for colds, flu, neuralgia and is widely used to repel annoying insects in summer. 

Citronella essential oil BIO is obtained from the leaves of Maha Pengiri (citronella grass, Cymbopogon winteranius) by the process of steam distillation. The output of essential oil from the plant mass is between 0.5 and 1.2%.

Citronella essential oil BIO is an easy-to-use, yellow liquid. It has a strong bitter smell, which is accompanied by a strong aroma of lemon and because of this the oil is also known as Lemon Balm (Melissa indicum). The essential oil dissolves easily in alcohol (1: 2 ethanol), herbal oils and essential oils. It hardly dissolves in water. The main ingredients of Citronella essential oil are geraniol, citronella, limonene and citronellol. Smaller amounts also contain borneol, geranyl acetate, methyl eugenol and linool.

The ingredients of Citronella essential oil BIO have some medicinal properties. For a long time, the oil and parts of the plant were used as a treatment for fever, intestinal parasites, digestive and menstrual problems in Asia. Citronella essential oil is applied as an ointment, massage oil, coating, as an aromatic space and in the form of baths. Citronella essential oil is also known for its strong insect repellent properties. For this reason it is used in insect repellent sprays (body sprays, ointments) or in similar scented candles, air fresheners and incense.

Citronella essential oil BIO is used in aromatherapy due to its relaxing properties in the bathroom, massage or aromatherapy.

Citronella essential oil BIO is used by perfumery in the composition of cool fragrances, as a fragrance in soaps, washing powders and other household products, such as detergent and window cleaner.

Citronella BIO essential oil is sometimes used in the kitchen to flavor alcoholic beverages, especially citrus fruits liqueurs.

Citronella essential oil BIO is very well combined with: Lemon, Lavender, Eucalyptus, Oregano, Mint, Rosemary, Sage& Thyme.
