Lime (Citrus aurantifolia), also known as moscholemono or glykolémono, is derived from the plant’s fruit. The essential oil is obtained through cold pressing of the fruit’s peel and has a vibrant, sweet, fresh, citrusy aroma.

Lime essential oil is used in aromatherapy as a tonic and revitalizing agent, with antimicrobial, antiseptic, bactericidal properties, and is beneficial for the immune system. It helps combat depression, apathy, fatigue, oily skin, and acne.

The components of lime essential oil also have medical characteristics. It has strong digestive properties and can be used for general digestive system disorders (dyspepsia) as an ointment or massage oil in the gastrointestinal area. Additionally, lime essential oil possesses antiseptic properties and can be used against colds. The recommended application is through rubbing on the respiratory area or using it as an aromatic wax for scenting a space. The scent of lime essential oil also helps alleviate nausea.

In aromatherapy, lime essential oil is used for its stimulating effects. Particularly in cases of mental exhaustion, such as anxiety, it can reduce concentration disturbances and confusion.
