Organic Cedar essential oil (Cedrus Atlantica) is derived from the processing of the wood of the Cedrus Atlantica tree. This evergreen coniferous tree can reach heights of up to 35 meters and resembles the well-known Lebanon Cedar. It gets its name from the Atlas Mountains, which are part of Algeria and Morocco.
Organic Cedar essential oil is a convenient, typically yellow to orange liquid. Its aroma is described as characteristic, spicy, warm, and woody. Key components include cedrol, α-cedrene, β-cedrene, and the aromatic compound atlantal.
The constituents of organic cedar essential oil have medicinal properties. Ancient Egyptians used it for embalming the dead, and later in the 19th century, its medicinal properties were discovered. Today, it is applied as an ointment, poultice, bath oil, or massage oil.
In aromatherapy, organic cedar essential oil is used in scented candles and as an additive in bath or massage oils.
Organic cedar essential oil is used in cosmetics as a fragrance component to achieve a woody, warm, and fresh tone in perfumes. It is also frequently used in the fragrance of soaps and similar products.
Organic Cedar Atlantica essential oil has a pleasant woody aroma (balsamic, woody) and is therefore used in both perfumery and soap-making industries. Regarding its properties, it is considered antiseptic and antifungal, and you will find it in many recipes for treating acne, cellulite, eczema, and skin disorders. Cedar Atlantica is also believed to help with hair loss and dandruff, which is why it is included in many specialized shampoos. In the USA, it is used by the pesticide industry to produce products that repel termites and ants.
Organic Cedar essential oil combines well with: Bergamot, Cypress, Juniper, Neroli, Lavender, Geranium, Jasmine, Cinnamon, Rosemary, Chamomile, Thyme, Bay, Sage, Clove, Oregano, and Tea Tree.
