The essential oil of Tarragon is derived from the processing of the leaves and buds of the plant Artemisia dracunculus, commonly known as dragon herb.
Tarragon essential oil is particularly effective in treating rheumatism and arthritis when used as an ingredient in massage oils. This is due to its dual action—it improves local blood circulation and aids in the elimination of toxins from tissues.
The components of Tarragon essential oil also possess medicinal characteristics. Tarragon has long been considered a protective herb against demons and was used as an antidote for bites from poisonous animals and wild dogs.
Scientific studies have shown the relaxing effect of Tarragon essential oil as an antispasmodic (in cases of dyspnea), against dysmenorrhea, flatulence, and spastic colitis. Recommended methods of intake include suppositories and rubs. In cases of viral infections, it may inhibit the replication of viruses (antiviral action). Tarragon oil also exhibits anti-inflammatory effects in inflammatory colitis (ulcerative colitis). Due to its estrogenic action, it provides beneficial effects during menstruation, making symptoms related to premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and general menstrual irregularities milder.
In aromatherapy, Tarragon essential oil is used as a sedative for rapid breathing (hyperventilation) due to panic or anxiety. It also positively impacts emotional exhaustion caused by stress and similar factors.
In perfumery, Tarragon is used as an ingredient in deodorants, both for its spicy aroma and its ability to inhibit bacterial growth. When used in a room diffuser, it is believed to stimulate appetite.
Tarragon essential oil blends well with lavender, lime, carrot, and rosewood.
