Organic Basil (Ocimum basilicum) is an annual herb from the Lamiaceae family, growing over 70 cm tall. Known since ancient times, it has been used by Chinese healers, in Ayurvedic medicine in India, and noted by the Greek physician Dioscorides.

Organic Basil Essential Oil is obtained through steam distillation of the leaves. It has a pale yellow color and a fresh, sweet, slightly spicy aroma. Key aromatic compounds include estragole, linalool, camphor, and tannins, with a significant percentage of methyl chavicol (approximately 80%), contributing to its therapeutic properties.

Scientific studies have shown that Basil Essential Oil possesses strong antioxidant, antiviral, and antimicrobial properties. It is ideal for treating colds, flu symptoms, and coughs, and is often chosen for relieving mental fatigue, lethargy, stress, and depression. Additionally, it is considered an excellent antispasmodic and is used in massage oils for muscle pain, cramps, and menstrual discomfort. It is also one of the best essential oils for diffusion, refreshing the atmosphere, repelling insects, and attracting good luck.

Basil Essential Oil is used in various areas of alternative medicine. It is commonly employed for digestive issues and bloating, and can also alleviate nausea and vomiting when used as a tea extract. Inhalation of basil oil has been found beneficial for blocked nasal passages.

In aromatherapy, Basil Essential Oil (Linalool type) is used for depression and as an anxiolytic. It has a revitalizing effect on the nervous system and enhances concentration.

This oil is also used in cosmetics as an ingredient in men’s fragrances to produce aldehydes, floral, spicy, and green notes, and is included in Eau de Cologne.

While Basil Essential Oil is not typically used in cooking, basil as a herb is a traditional and highly valued seasoning in Mediterranean cuisine.

Usage Rate: Up to 2% in skincare products, and up to 0.5% directly on the skin (not to be used undiluted).

Basil Essential Oil blends well with: Bergamot, Hyssop, Clove, Lime, Eucalyptus, Juniper, Lemon, Neroli, and Rosemary.
