The Hyssop tincture is derived from the immersion of the aerial parts of hyssop in an alcoholic solution (grappa) for a period of 4-6 weeks. During this time, the active ingredients of the herb dissolve into the alcoholic solution, resulting in the creation of the tincture.
Hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis) is an herb known since ancient times. Hippocrates used it for pleurisy, and Dioscorides recommended it for asthma and cataracts in combination with wormwood. The name comes from the Hebrew "Esob" and is often referenced in the Bible.
Hyssop contains up to 2% volatile oil (mainly pinocamphone), flavonoids, a glycoside (hyssopin), diosmin, oleanolic acid, and up to 8% tannins. It acts as an antispasmodic, expectorant, diaphoretic, sedative, and is astringent. Hyssop has an interesting range of applications, most of which are due to the antispasmodic action of the bitter substance it contains (marubiin). It is used for cough, bronchitis, and chronic catarrh. Its diaphoretic properties make it beneficial for the common cold. It can also serve as a nervine tonic in cases of anxiety, hysteria, and minor epilepsy.
For cough and bronchitis, it combines well with elderflower, sage, mint, thyme, tussilago, licorice, and marshmallow. For the common cold, it can be combined with agrimony, echinacea, propolis, sea buckthorn, and garlic. It also pairs well with raspberry and eucalyptus.
The tinctures retain all the active ingredients of the herb, are particularly easy to take, and are completely natural. They undoubtedly surpass dietary supplements in pill form, as they do not contain chemicals or preservatives and are absorbed much more effectively by the body.
Herbal tinctures are very potent, and for this reason, they should be consumed according to the instructions. The usual dosage is 0.5-1ml (approximately 10-20 drops) per day. They should not be consumed during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
The Hyssop tincture is prepared in Greece under the strictest European standards, using only pure and verified raw materials.
