The Helichrysum tincture is made by soaking the flowers of the Helichrysum plant in an alcoholic solution (grappa) for a period of 4-6 weeks. During this time, the active ingredients of the plant dissolve into the alcoholic solution, resulting in the tincture.
Helichrysum (Helichrysum italicum) has been known since ancient times for its therapeutic properties, as referenced by Hippocrates and Dioscorides, who described it as a remedy for nervous atony and inflammation of the stomach and intestines.
The name Helichrysum comes from the Greek words "helios" (sun) and "chrysos" (gold), referring to the striking color and shape of the flowers, which resemble large golden daisies. According to another version, the name is attributed to the nymph Elikhrisi, who loved the plant and was the first to gather it.
The tincture of Helichrysum contains a wealth of valuable properties for both the body and the skin. This plant is primarily known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, as well as its contribution to skin regeneration and reduction of signs of aging. It is also used as a hemostatic agent. Historically, Helichrysum has been recognized for its exceptional ability to aid in wound healing after battles. Additionally, it protects the nervous system from stress and anxiety, benefits conditions like cough and asthma, and strengthens the immune system.
Helichrysum has traditionally been used in Europe to treat conditions such as lymph node tuberculosis, asthma, arthritis, headaches, and intestinal worms. In homeopathy, the tincture is administered for gallbladder disorders, lumbago, hemorrhoids, and anal fistulas.
