Organic Citronella Essential Oil is derived from the leaves of the plant Cymbopogon winteranius, commonly known as Maha Pengiri. This grass, a member of the sweet grass family, originally comes from Java (Indonesia) but is now widely cultivated in Southeast Asia, particularly in India. This perennial grass grows in clumps and can reach heights of up to two meters, with reddish lower leaf sections and smooth, shiny leaves that can grow up to one meter long.

Organic Citronella Essential Oil is obtained through steam distillation of the leaves and has an oil yield of approximately 0.5% to 1.2%. The oil is a useful yellow liquid with a strong characteristic bitter smell, accompanied by a pronounced lemon aroma, which is why it is also known as Melissa indicum.

This essential oil easily dissolves in alcohol (1:2 ethanol), vegetable oils, and other essential oils, but it does not dissolve in water. Key components include geraniol, citronellal, limonene, and citronellol, with smaller quantities of borneol, geranyl acetate, methyl eugenol, and linalool.

Organic Citronella Essential Oil has several medicinal properties. Traditionally, it has been used in Asia for treating fevers, intestinal parasites, digestive issues, and menstrual problems. The oil can be applied as an ointment, massage oil, or aromatic agent and is known for its strong insect-repellent properties. Consequently, it is often found in insect repellent sprays, ointments, aromatic candles, air fresheners, and incense.

In aromatherapy, Organic Citronella Essential Oil is valued for its relaxing properties and is used in baths, massages, or room scenting.

Additionally, this essential oil is used in perfumery to create fresh fragrances and is incorporated into soaps, laundry powders, and other household products like detergents and window cleaners. It can also occasionally be used in cooking to flavor alcoholic beverages, particularly citrus liqueurs.

Combines very well with: Lemon, Lavender, Eucalyptus, Oregano, Mint, Rosemary, Sage, and Thyme.
