Organic Sage Essential Oil (Salvia Officinalis) is a perennial, bushy plant with numerous branches and thick, elongated, fuzzy gray-green leaves. It is primarily found in dry, rocky areas of the Greek countryside. The essential oil is derived from the distillation of the herb and its flowers, possessing a sweet, herbaceous aroma with bactericidal, fungistatic, and virustatic properties.
Organic Sage has a strong herbal scent and a watery texture. Its main chemical components include α-pinene, camphene, β-pinene, myrcene, limonene, 1,8-cineole, α-thujone, β-thujone, camphor, linalool, acetic borneol ester, and borneol.
Organic Sage Essential Oil calms the nervous system and is recommended by aromatherapists for cases of depression, anxiety, insomnia, and painful periods. It helps reduce hot flashes, night sweats, irritability, headaches, and dizziness. Inhalation of its aroma has mucolytic and anti-catarrhal effects, making it suitable for influenza, colds, and more. Research from British scientists at Newcastle and Northumbria universities has shown that it enhances memory function and concentration.
Additionally, its aroma is believed to stimulate sexual desire.
Besides burning, Organic Sage Essential Oil can alleviate muscle pain, lower back pain, neck stiffness, cramps, and dysmenorrhea by adding 2-3 drops to massage oil or body lotion. It is also used in facial creams, particularly for oily skin, to balance sebum production and act astringently. It can be added to shampoos to enhance natural hair color without damaging the hair or burdening the skin with harmful chemicals. Due to its potency, it should be used with caution; only 2 drops in 100 ml of water can be used for gargling and rinses to treat toothaches and mouth sores. Ingestion is not permitted.
Organic Sage Essential Oil may stimulate digestion and, due to its hormonal regulatory effects, is very useful for menstrual issues and pain related to rheumatism. It also helps in managing sadness and depression and has been used to combat female infertility and menopausal problems.
Organic Sage Essential Oil is a potent oil and should be used carefully. It is classified as an oral toxin and must be used with caution in aromatherapy. It has a high content of thujone and can cause seizures when used in high concentrations. Additionally, it should not be used during pregnancy or by individuals with epilepsy or high blood pressure.
Organic Sage Essential Oil combines well with: Rosemary, Oregano, Bay, Lavender, Pine, Jasmine, and Lemon.
