Organic Eucalyptus essential oil (Globulus) is obtained from the fresh or dried leaves and the tips of the branches of the Blue Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) through steam distillation. The yield of essential oil from the plant material ranges between 1.2% and 3%.
Organic eucalyptus essential oil is a colorless to light yellow and sometimes even greenish liquid. It has a distinctive fresh and spicy aroma reminiscent of camphor. Organic eucalyptus essential oil dissolves easily in alcohol (1:3, ethanol), vegetable oils, and other essential oils, but is almost insoluble in water. The main components are limonene, 1.8-cineole, and pinene isomers. P-cymene and g-terpinenes are present in smaller amounts.
The constituents of organic eucalyptus essential oil also have medicinal characteristics. Indigenous Australians have long recognized the effects of eucalyptus, alongside tea tree oil. Chewed leaves were placed on fresh wounds to promote better healing. The main component, 1.8-cineole, combined with other active ingredients, enables rapid absorption through the skin at a rate of 95%.
The classic use of organic eucalyptus essential oil (Globulus) is as an expectorant in the bronchial area, often referred to as an "oil for colds." In cases of bronchopneumonia (a specific lung inflammation primarily affecting the bronchi), it is recommended to use it through inhalation and rubbing.
Organic eucalyptus essential oil also has strong antibacterial action. Depending on the method of application—whether as a poultice, inhalation, or antibiotic—it targets different bacteria. It is also recommended for treating impetigo (a bacterial skin disease causing large rashes), which can be very dangerous for children. Similarly, the oil acts against fungi (fungicidal action). Infections from Candida, especially those caused by strains of Candida, can be treated with antibiotics. Organic eucalyptus essential oil (Globulus) has strong anti-inflammatory action and is used as a poultice, extract, bath oil, and through inhalation. It also has anti-rheumatic effects and positive action against arthritis (inflammatory joint disease).
Aromatherapy uses organic eucalyptus essential oil to enhance concentration and mental stimulation. It also helps combat lethargy. It is preferred to be used in aromatherapy diffusers and as a bath or massage oil.
Organic eucalyptus essential oil is used in aromatherapy for asthma, coughs, colds, sinusitis, pharyngitis, contagious diseases, bronchitis, skin infections, and rheumatism.
