Dill Seed oil is derived from the plant known scientifically as Anethum Graveolens (fragrant dill), a wild, annual herb of the Apiaceae family, native to many areas of Europe and Russia, reaching heights of up to 60 cm. This plant has been known since ancient times for its aromatic and medicinal properties, traditionally used to treat liver diseases, aerophagia, and hemorrhoids.
The essential oil of dill is extracted through steam distillation of the seeds and has a spicy, sweet aroma. Its main aromatic compounds include monoterpenes such as carvone and limonene, ketones, and flavonoids. It also contains vitamins A, B, and C, along with small amounts of dietary fiber, calcium, magnesium, and potassium.
Due to its significant antispasmodic properties, dill essential oil is ideal for maintaining digestive health. It is recommended for alleviating intestinal colic and indigestion, and, along with anise, cumin, and fennel, is among the four essential oils that combat intestinal bloating. Additionally, it is indicated for relieving painful menstruation (period pain) and appears to significantly contribute to increasing milk flow in nursing mothers. Furthermore, its excellent natural decongestant and antihistamine actions help clear the respiratory system. Scientific studies have also demonstrated its rich antioxidant, anticancer, and antibacterial properties. Finally, it supports the proper functioning of the nervous system and memory while toning the body and reducing fatigue.
Dill essential oil blends well with: Cypress, Black Pepper, and citrus essential oils.
Caution! Dill is contraindicated for individuals with low blood pressure and for pregnant women.
